PROTOCOL FOR THE EXPORTATION OF CATTLE
AND/OR BOVINE SEMEN FROM JAMAICA

. General Requirements

The exporter/agent must receive a valid
import permit from the offical agency in
the importing country:

The Ministry of Agriculture,Veterinary
Division must be contacted regarding
the conditions in the importation permit.

The Jamaica Livestock Association
Limited is empowered to do exports on
behalf of Jamaica Cattle Breed
Societies.

. Ministry of Agriculture's Requirements

a) Presentation of an application for an
export permit.
b) Presentation of an application for an
export Veterinary health certificate
for animal(s)/semen.

. Some Conditions of Veterinary Export
(Health) Certificate Include:

1) The animal(s) must be physically
examined by an officially designated
registered veterinary surgeon.

2) Quarantine/Isolation of animal(s)from
herd or flock for a specific time period
prior to exportation.

3) Serological and microscopic evaluation
of semen samples.

4) Inspection of farm and processing areas.

5) Treatment Test Result Records of animals
for specific diseases.

6) The country's animal and Zoonotic status
which must be current, e.g. Brucellosis,
Tuberculosis, B.S.E., etc.

. Export of Purebred Cattle and Semen

1) Animals for export must be registered in
the relevant Herd Book and must be
approved by a panel of appraisers
selected by the Managing Committee of
of the Breed Society.

2) Official certificates of pedigree will
be provided for each animal selected for
export.

3) Undergo necessary evaluations.

. Financial Conditions and Payment Plan


1) Cost of animal/semen delivered at port
of exit to be agreed between The Jamaica
Livestock Association Limited and
purchasers. Payment by cash in advance
or Irrevocable Letter of Credit to
Jamaica Livestock Association account
with Bank of Nova Scotia Limited prior
to shipment.

2) Delivery will be to the port of exit from
Jamaica.

3) Insurance will be for the purchaser's
account.

Allow adequate time for the Veterinary Services
Division to fulfill conditions specified on the import permit in preparation of the Export Veterinary Certificate.
